Many of us are familiar with the word Microwave and we know it to mean a cooking equipment which is called a Microwave Oven. In the context of this article, I will explain how we shall microwave it our way.
According to my take, Microwave, means putting just the right amount of energy into the ingredients that is the character, the settings, the action, the conflict and ensuring that everything is in the right amount.
This is akin to what we know the Microwave Oven does. It cooks the food by injecting them with surprise Microwave which is a form of energy. Microwave Ovens use high frequency electro-magnetic wave to heat food by causing water, sugar, and fat molecules to vibrate thereby creating friction and heat. When Microwaves enter food, they are absorbed by water, sugar and fat molecules when used correctly.

Modern microwave cooking offers convenience and efficiency for Zambian households.
Safety First
Microwave ovens are safe for use and do not pose any health risks to humans. However, when using them, precautions must be taken. For instance, avoid using metal containers or aluminium foil, as microwaves are reflected off these materials and can damage the oven or harm you. Additionally, avoid overheating food as this can lead to uneven cooking and potentially harm you.
Practical Applications
The microwave is used widely to warm foods like meat, Nshima, or even cook or roast chicken, T-Bone or beef. It is one of the fastest ways to cook food.

Microwaving Traditional Zambian Foods
While traditional cooking methods hold cultural significance, modern Zambian households are increasingly incorporating microwave cooking into their routines. Reheating nshima, warming stews, and even preparing certain relishes can be done efficiently in a microwave oven.
The key is understanding how different foods respond to microwave energy. Dense foods like nshima may need to be covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying, while liquid-rich foods like soups and stews heat quickly and evenly.
As we embrace modern cooking technologies, we can find a balance between traditional methods and convenient alternatives. The microwave offers a quick solution for busy households while still allowing us to enjoy the flavors of Zambian cuisine.
